Social Programme

The social events planned for the Symposium are listed below. Except for the welcome reception on June 8, admission tickets are required (free except for the conference dinner). Please order your tickets when you fill out the registration form.

June 8, 2008: A Welcome Reception in the magnificent Convocation Hall of the main building of Copenhagen University at Frue Plads (right next to the Cathedral, see map of the area HERE and directions under Practical Info) is held on Sunday, June 8, from 16.00 to 20.00. Pre-registered participants may pick up their conference papers at the reception, and late registration will be possible as well. Entrance is free, also for accompanying persons.

June 9, 2008: A Reception is offered at the Town Hall by the Mayor of Copenhagen on Monday, June 9, from 18.00 to 20.00. There is no charge, but tickets are required and will be distributed at the registration desk.

June 11: 2008: A social event commemorating Bengt Strömgren´s contributions to Danish science is planned for the afternoon of Wednesday, June 11, at approx. 15.30 - 18.00, at the former Strömgren residence at the Carlsberg Brewery. Brief speeches will be given by the President of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters and a few others, and refreshments will be served. Entrance is free, but capacity is limited, so tickets are required. Directions will be provided with the tickets upon registration, but can also be seen HERE.

June 12, 2008: The Conference Dinner will take place at 19.30 on Thursday, June 12, at the Freemasons' Lodge next to the Niels Bohr Institute (Blegdamsvej 23; see map of the area HERE). Due to a combination of generous sponsorship and good spirit among neighbours, we are able to offer an excellent three-course dinner with all beverages and entertainment in a spectacular setting for a nominal price. Tickets for the dinner are ordered at the BDP registration site, and capacity is almost unlimited. Don't miss this event (but be sure to tell us of any special dietary requirements)!.

June 14, 2008: Finally, an all-day excursion to Tycho Brahe’s observatory at the island of Hven will be organised as an optional tour after the meeting itself, on Saturday. Departure by boat from Copenhagen harbour at 9.00 AM; return by 17.30. Further details will be provided to registered participants in the excursion at registration.
